The average American walks 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day. Obesity has been on a sharp rise since before 1997. As a result, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol has been on a similar rise.
Treatment for diabetes: multiple pills several times daily, until that fails then, injectable insulin until that fails, then dialysis until that fails.
Remember an active adult woman needs about 2,000 to 2,200 calories a day, whereas an active man in the same category needs 2,600 to 2,800 calories a day to maintain their weight. Both will require fewer calories as we age. However, as of 2014, Americans ate an average of 3,770 calories per day. Just as a reminder the rate of obesity since 2014 has only increased since then. To lose 1 pound per week you would need to subtract 500 calories from the amount of calories you need to maintain weight. But most of us are consuming 1000 to 1700 calories more than we need daily. We must find clever ways of burning them off.
