It is recommended to get up from a seated position every 30 minutes. Because most of us are not following this caution, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes are on a constant rise. That being said, people who walk 10 to 15 thousand step per day, have significant risk reduction in all of these diseases. Challenge yourself to get off the list of this chronic disease and promise to get healthy for yourself and your family. We just need to move more often.
Humans are built to stand upright. But on the contrary our society, on average, sits for 9.3 hours per day. Your heart and cardiovascular system work more effectively when we are mobile. With increase in physical activeness, our energy levels and endurance improve, and our bones and muscles are strengthened. Sitting for long periods can lead to weakening and wasting muscles. Many patients suggest that there isn’t a lot of opportunities for movement or walking at work, or that they don’t have enough time or energy to exercise after working. Sitting for long however, is not the answer as it increases your risk for so many life altering chronic health problems, such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and cancers.
