Urinary Tract Infections are bacterial infections caused by E. coli bacteria. UTI infections usually start at the bladder, urethra, and lower urinary tract but can affect any part of the urinary system.UTI is characterized by pain while urinating, blood in urine, increased urge to urinate, vaginal irritation, pelvic pain, and smelly urine. Women are at risk of getting UTI infections , and if left untreated, it can spread to the kidneys, causing more damage.
Studies show that cranberry juice contains active compounds that prevent bacteria such as E. coli cells from being attached to the cells in the urinary tract due to the high content of A-type proanthocyanidins that obstructs bacteria from binding in the urinary tract. In addition, cranberry juice contains antioxidants that have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Cranberry juice also increases the acidity levels in urine, providing an unfriendly environment for the bacteria infection.
Wash the cranberries with clean, flowing water. Put the cranberries and water in the pot and bring to boil. While reducing the heat, keep on cooking until the cranberries burst. Pour the juice into glass jars and keep them in a refrigerator. Drink the cranberry juice chilled.
