Toothache, also known as odontalgia, occurs at the gum or a bone of the tooth, resulting in irritating and painful inflammation on the gums and teeth. Toothaches are constant pains that do not go away. The pain is prompted by temperature changes such as taking icy drinks or exposure to pressure caused by biting or chewing.
Cloves contain various active ingredients, eugenol, which acts as a natural anesthetic hence used to numb a toothache and relieve pain. The eugenol in clove oil is effective in fighting oral bacteria. Clove oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties that aid in reducing the inflammation caused by toothache. In addition, clove oil is used as an analgesic to treat sensitive gums and teeth.
In the small dish, squeeze a few drops of clove oil. Mix the clove oil with one teaspoonful of olive oil. Dip a cotton swab in the mixture and place it on the affected area. Let the oil sit for 10 minutes. Then, reapply as needed for the pain relief.
