Burns are common household injuries resulting from a skin’s contact with a scorching surface, electrical contact, and harmful chemicals. Burns can be caused by steam, electrical currents, fire, and hot metal. Only first-degree and second-degree burns can be treated at home since they involve the skin’s outer deeper layers. Third-degree and fourth-degree burns involve damage done to all skin layers, joints, and bones and should only be treated at the hospital.
Aloe vera promotes faster healing of first and second-degree burns by reducing inflammation of the skin, promoting blood circulation on the affected area. It inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria due to anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera gel is soothing on the skin when applied to burns. It is theorized that aloe gel is used in preventing scarring of the skin after a burn. The best form of aloe vera gel is taken directly from the leaf of the aloe vera plant.
Cut the spines on the aloe vera leaves and proceed to cut the leaves in half. Scoop the insides with the knife and apply to the burnt area. Use clean gauze to cover the burned area with the gel.
