Migraines Magnesium

Migraines:

A migraine is a reoccurring headache-causing severe excruciating pain on one side of the head. It is accompanied by vomiting, sensitivity to noise, light, and sound. Migraines progress in four main stages, namely from prodrome to aura to attach then post-drome. The prodrome stage is usually a day or two before one has a migraine characterized by constipation, increased frequency in yawning, sudden mood changes, increased thirst. In the aura stage, you will notice visual symptoms such as vision loss, difficulty speaking, hallucination, and numbness to one side of the face, which happens just before and during migraines. The third stage attack is the migraine that lasts for hours up to three days if not treated, with throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head, heightened sensitivity to light, sound, and touch, and feeling nauseous during the migraine. Finally, the post-drome stage occurs just after a migraine. One feels drained and confused.

Natural Remedy:

Spinach.

Why it works:

Magnesium is a vital mineral needed by the body's physiologic processes essential in improving bone health, maintain a healthy nerve function, and stabilizing blood pressure. Having low magnesium content is directly linked to having migraines. A study found out that a consistent magnesium intake will, in turn, prevent migraines. For person s in the aura stage, an uptake in magnesium levels reduces the visual symptoms. For persons who have menstrual migraines, increasing magnesium intake is the preventative alternative.

What you need:

  • 400g of spinach
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • 2 cups of water

Step by Step Guide:

In a pan half-filled with boiling water, add the spinach and wait for about 2 minutes to wilt. Drain the excess water. In a serving dish, add olive oil and salt to taste. Serve hot.
