Insomnia is a sleep condition described by difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep for a period, especially at night, characterized by anxiety, headache, and depression. There are two types of insomnia; Primary insomnia and secondary insomnia. The difference between primary and secondary insomnia is that; primary insomnia is sleep deprivation not linked to any health condition, while secondary insomnia is a sleep deprivation interlinked to existing health conditions. Insomnia symptoms can either be transient, lasting less than a week, short-term lasting up to three weeks, and chronic lasting more than three weeks. These symptoms include; waking up too early, irritability, difficulty falling asleep at night, sleepiness during the daytime, and waking up several times in the middle of the night. Insomnia results from poor sleeping habits, stress, overeating at dinner, and frequently changing sleeping patterns.
Banana peels contain magnesium and potassium, which help balance hormones, relieving stress and relaxing muscles. In addition, the banana peels contain L-tryptophan, an amino acid that is a precursor for serotonin, a mood relaxing neurotransmitter, and melatonin-the sleep hormone. Cinnamon complements the banana peel taste promoting the relaxation of muscles. In addition, serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine help fight fatigue, stress, and depression by boosting mood and increasing vitality, consequently reducing insomnia.
Peel off a banana. Wash the peel thoroughly to avoid ingestion of residual herbicides. Cut off the ends and slice the peel into small pieces. Place the banana peel slices in a small pot with the cinnamon stick and cover the peels with water. Boil the peels for 10 minutes. Strain the banana peels and drink the tea.
