Colds Echinacea


Common Cold:

Colds are viral infections on the respiratory tract caused by picornaviruses and rhinoviruses. They attack the upper respiratory tract peaking in the winter months. The virus is transmitted when air droplets from an infected person form when sneezing, coughing, or talking get into contact with the nose, mouth, or eyes. Colds are characterized by headache, fatigue, sore throat, sneezing, running or stuffy nose, and body aches.

Natural Remedy:

Echinacea tea.

Why it works:

Echinacea extracts contain alkamides responsible for improving the immune system by stimulating an increase in the production of the immune cells in the body. It is used as a prevention and treatment for colds and flu, consequently preventing their reoccurrence. Echinacea cuts the duration of a cold and reduces the severity of the condition. In addition, Echinacea has anti-inflammatory properties helping in decreasing inflammation levels. Lemongrass adds flavor to the tea.

What you need:

  • ¼ cup of dried Echinacea extracts
  • One teaspoon of dried lemongrass
  • 1 cup water

Step by Step Guide:

Mix the ingredients. Add a cup of water to the mixture and bring it to a boil. Let it steep for about 15 minutes. Then, drink it plain or add honey to add sweetness.
