Quercetin is a plant pigment (flavonoid) that people sometimes take as a medicine, and can be found in many plants and foods. Quercetin is reported to be effective on treatment and prophylaxis of other SARS like coronavirus infections, offering disease resistance against several diseases, including anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antioxidant. Quercetin is considered a strong antioxidant scavenger flavonoid without any adverse effects, and is believed to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis. Researchers linked eating lots of food high in quercetin to a lower risk of heart-related deaths in older men while other study are not so convincing.
Quercetin has been effective in bettering chronic diseases and aging processes in humans. According to Sage Journals, in silico and in vitro studies, it was demonstrated that quercetin can interfere with different stages of COVID19 entry and replication cycle such as PLpro, 3CLpro, and NTPase/helicase.
There is also evidence that vitamin C and quercetin, when taken together have a synergistic antiviral action. Additionally, there is overlapping antiviral and immunomodulatory properties aided by the capacity of ascorbate to recycle quercetin, increasing its efficacy. The Sage Journal also added that "the antiviral significance of quercetin and proposes as a possible strategy for the effective utilization of natural polyp phenol in our daily diet for the prevention of viral infection". We do recommend daily adult ingestion of Quercetin 250 mg 2x/day.
