SELENIUM

Selenium (Se) is commonly found in soil then makes its way through the food chain to humans. It is considered an essential trace mineral with increased incidents of cancer and heart disease if levels are low. It is also known as an essential nutrient for making multiple key antioxidant enzymes. Deficiency of selenium enables RNA viruses to convert to more virulent strains. Selenium also aids in protecting your body against infections by neutralizing free radicals and serves as a powerful antioxidant that fight against oxidative stress.

Importantly, selenium inhibits the entrance of viruses into cellular membranes and abolishes their infectivity. Selenium is also remarkably important in DNA synthesis, and increases levels of glutathione peroxidase, another powerful antioxidant. These have not been proven to cure or prevent COVID but having a healthy immune system is vitally important in stopping COVID1-19 in its tracks. Nutritionally, Selenium is essential for humans, and is a constituent of more than two dozen selenoproteins that play critical roles in the prevention of chronic disease and regulates hormones produced by your thyroid.
